Hi, I haven’t slept on that brand but have slept on a aerobed and found it very comfortable. My brother has slept on a aerobed for the past two years as he hasn’t managed to decide on a bed and found the airbed to be very comfortable.Check out the reviews on Amazon as it seems to be hit and miss with the Wenzel airbed. Hope this helps

Memory foam mattress with regular foam topper?

I am looking at memory foam beds and have tried the 5.3 lb foam (store). I find it too ‘hard’ for me. Neither my husband or I are heavy and I didn’t event dent the foam. When I tried out the sleep-number bed, I was about a 45 (which is medium soft) but the reviews weren’t that great (lots of problems with air leaks, pumps, etc)

I have a local mattress company that will create any type of mattress I want. I was thinking of getting a 4.0 memory foam with a plush ‘regular foam’ topper. Will this defeat the purpose of the memory foam? I really don’t like the ‘flat’ feel of the memory foam – I prefer a more cushy feeling…. or do you think going with the 5.3 lb (harder) with the regular foam pillowtop would be better.

Again, I don’t think I’ll like sleeping directly on the foam. I guess my question is, – will a buffer – such as a ‘regular’ pillowtop defeat the purpose of the memory foam? From what I gather memory foam is really personal – some people really don’t like it -
I DID try the mattress at the store (several places). Just too hard for me – don’t like the direct memory ‘foam’ feeling. I notice lots of people using featerbeds over memory foam – but they’re too warm. Also people complain about the foam retaining heat.
One more clarification. The ‘topper’ I’m referring to is a “pillowtop” that would be ‘part of the mattress‘. It’s not separate.

Buying a product (and paying extra for this specialty item) and then changing the way it is supposed to work is, indeed, defeating the purpose. I would check out other mattresses and even take the foam topper with you to the store. You are the one that is going to be sleeping on it and paying for it so get what you want/need to be comfortable.

David asks…

Anyone heard of Serta ‘Simply Perfect’ mattress (see description)?

I am trying to possibly purchase a used mattress off craigslist that this couple bought at the air force base store (so I’m guessing this particular brand is not available to the general public). Anyway they are telling me it is Serta ‘Simply Perfect’ NOT ‘Perfect Sleeper’. Also told me it is a posturepedic and a pillowtop. I have looked and looked and looked to find a pic of this bed/mattress (queen size by the way) for a pic on the internet, plus I want to read some reviews of this particular mattress on the internet. But I can’t find it? and FYI: They sent me a pic message over my cell phone and I seen with my own eyes this ‘Simply Perfect’ but just can’t find on the internet. So if anyone out there reading this has a site for me to look at, please let me know. Thanks

admin answers:

I would not buy a second hand mattress, to gross.

Mattress company’s slap many different names on the same mattress. This way every mattress store can claim the lowest prices because they are the only ones that carry that named item. It is a racket.

Mattress quality has gone down the tubes in recent years. They are now only single sided and not built to last. Just by something cheap and comfortable, You will need a new one soon enough.

Charles asks…

Anyone had a war with fleas?

Then you know where I’m coming from. If you haven’t then count your lucky stars! You see my husband and I have been to war with our kittens fleas. I even bear the battle scars of flea bites poxed all over my feet, ankles, shins and calves. I may never recover again, before the enemy of fleas attacked I had flawless tanned legs and a pedicure any soldiers wife would die for… Now I have to wear socks with shorts. The worst is my Dr told me the scarring was so severe I may never wear thongs (Jandals or any opened toed footwear) again. I thoght my life was over. I remember it like it was yesterday I mean how could I forget? I can’t change what happened to me but boy did we put up a bloody good fight! My husband and I refused to put up with a flea invasion so we had to prepare for battle….

It was time to get industrious and laborious! There was no return for us no surrender, we had to go forward, we were going to go forward no matter what….. !!!

You see we care for 3 x 6wk kittens. In their first 2 wks (after researching through google’s advice), the mother does everything for her kittens and that was amazing – I never knew that. Never seen kittens raised from birth before. I did nothing but be mesmorized daily as they grew and as she cared for them. Through all the bewilderment I forgot all about fleas so I was just doing my home duties of vacuuming and mopping once a week… you know…the usual routines out of habit. What followed next after 2 weeks proved to change life as we knew it. An invasion was imminant and we were going to war. There was nothing we could do about it but devise our battle plan…

An immediate review of my cleaning roster and its frequency was critical. What was performed weekly was now to be a crucial daily advancement commencing immediately. To reinforce our advancement we needed to build our trenches (courtyard gardens where the kittens played during the day needed to be dug and turned over and new plants introduced) so we wouldn’t be exposed to the enemy and we had sufficient camoflage.

After our trenches were dug deep and the camoflage in place we needed to set up lines of defence (it was time to clean!) I started mopping, vacuuming, wiping, washing everything and anything I could it seemed to go on for days nights. I was in charge of all tactical manner within the barracks (house) while my husband coordinated air strikes (flea Bombs), manned the cannon (outside hose) and released tear gas (outdoor pest control spray), It would be a test of our strength that ultimately would push us to near breaking point but we were determined it would not break our spirits!

Before the enemy made their move we implemented one last tactical manouvre – Plan B (A fall back) to cover our flanks and rear (the kittens bed, blankets and linen). I had to make a go for their bed linen before the enemy gained control of it. It was risky but it had to be done. There was no turning back now – I had to move fast and quietly. I snuck up on the mattress in the night and doused it with petrol then set it alight. I radioed into my husband our victory but it was short lived. I boiled hot water and sterilised their bed linen in disinfectant and threw it in the washing machine. I put it all in the dryer to properly kill what enemy may have remained. The worst was still to come…

Now with all positions covered we were prepared for our first point of attack…. The bathing of the kittens! War broke out the moment they hit the bath water. We were under relentless attack left right and centre, The noise and screaming was deafening (kittens crying in the basin bath), the enemy seemed to be coming from every angle in numbers like we’d never seen before! Day turned into night an still they kept coming. We forgot our nightvision and didn’t see a troupe of enemy snipers lying low in ambush, thats when they got both my feet. The pain and suffering was too much I lost all consciousness. I don’t remember anything else except waking up seeing the glowing of fire lights surrounding me (candles burning) and feeling something like hot blood covering me from my waste down. When I came too I realised I was in ICU (I’d fallen asleep in the bath) with my husband by my side. I asked him what had happened and he told me I had passed out during the attack when the enemy shot out both my lower legs and he used the flame thrower to light up the enemy snipers and forcethem into retreat. That explained the fires glowing around me. He said the enemy appears to have retreated but will regroup and call in more reinforcements. Just when I thought I couldn’t take anymore all of a sudden I get the strength and will to keep fighting (cleaning) each day. we refuse to be invaded by the enemy and we will fight to the very end! If we lose at least I’ve left my story for generations to come in the hopes to inspire them to pure freedom from invasions. Don’t let them win! Fight wit

I guess you’ve never heard of 20 Mule Team Borax powder. Brushing this into all rugs, under furniture, and leaving for a few days will dry up the live fleas, then you can vacuum them up. If you retreat every few days, while throwing the used vacuum cleaner bags OUT each time, the fleas ( which hatch IN CYCLES will soon disappear. Fleas you SEE were eggs 3 weeks ago…..so, the area needs a few treatments with the borax powder.

Sorry you’ve been bombarded, but try the borax and see if it helps…….Good luck.

Get a bomb and blow the buggers up. =)

Seriously, though, try StrikeBack flea spray. You can order it online from this site:

http://www.strikeback-products.co.uk/

As you can see they also do a lot of other products. A couple of years back we had a serious flea invasion, so bad that as soon as your foot touched the floor they were all on you. They drove us insane, so we went to the local pet shop and found StrikeBack. It said it was harmful to fish etc so we thought it must be good. I sprayed some on a victim I found and it was dead within 4 seconds flat. It is amazing stuff. That combined with spot on for the cats and powder for the bedding you will soon win this battle of wits and might. =)
